Instructions for Use

Applying silicone molds for special effects work with Bondo requires care and precision.

The physical lifespan of the mold depends on how it is used. Using abrasive materials can quickly erode the mold's details, while using non-abrasive materials will not affect them. Before storing, the mold should be cleaned with a soapy solution and dried completely.

Here are some general instructions for filling our silicone molds for your FX projects:

Materials needed:

Silicone mold

Bondo

Isopropyl Alcohol

Spatula or knife for applying

Release agent

Cotton swabs

Neutral powder

Steps:

  • Preparing the work area:
Make sure you have a clean workspace with a flat, level surface and all the necessary materials.

  • Preparing the silicone mold:
Clean the silicone mold with isopropyl alcohol and a cotton swab to ensure there is no residue left on any part of the mold. Allow the alcohol to evaporate before proceeding to the next step. To ensure our prosthesis adheres easily to the skin and detaches from the silicone mold, you must apply a release agent to prevent the Bondo from sticking to the mold. This release agent can be a small amount of pure petroleum jelly or a specialized spray.

  • Applying Bondo to the silicone mold:
Using a spatula, fill and press the Bondo cream into the mold, ensuring it completely fills the mold and covers all areas. Once filled, use a Japanese spatula of the appropriate size for the mold to clean up any excess Bondo. Gently drag the spatula across the filled surface to remove excess product and smooth the edges.

  • Drying:
Allow the Bondo to dry completely; this may take several hours. Ensure the mold is on a level surface to prevent the Bondo from running. Drying time depends on many factors, such as the depth of the molding and the ambient temperature. Once dry, it is recommended to apply a neutral powder to the surface to prevent it from sticking to unwanted areas during transport or to prevent external dust (dirt) from adhering.

Remember to follow the specific instructions for the products you are using, as proportions and drying times may vary depending on the brand. Also, keep in mind that working with resins and chemicals requires caution and adequate ventilation. Work in a safe environment.
